A professional fire door inspection is a thorough process that examines every component of the door assembly. Here is what our inspectors check and what you will receive afterwards.
The Inspection Process
Our fire door inspections follow a systematic approach based on the requirements of BS 8214 (the British Standard for fire door assemblies) and the guidance published by the Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS). Each door is inspected individually and assessed against a comprehensive checklist.
What We Check
For each fire door, our inspector examines the door leaf for damage, warping, or delamination, the door frame for integrity and correct fitting, gaps between the door and frame (should not exceed 3mm), intumescent strips and smoke seals (condition and correct installation), the self-closing device (working correctly, sufficient force to latch), hinges (correct number, type, and condition — fire doors typically require three hinges), locks and latches (fire-rated and correctly installed), glazing (if present — must be fire-rated with correct beading), signage (fire door keep shut / fire door keep locked), and any other hardware (letter plates, spy viewers, etc.).
The Report
After the inspection, you receive a detailed report for each door inspected. The report includes a unique reference for each door, photographs of any defects found, a clear pass/fail status, specific details of any non-compliance issues, recommended remedial actions with priority levels, and references to the relevant standards and regulations.
After the Inspection
If any doors fail the inspection, the report provides a clear action plan. Critical defects (such as a missing self-closing device or major gaps) should be rectified immediately. Less urgent issues can be planned into a maintenance schedule. We can re-inspect doors after remedial work has been carried out to confirm compliance.
